We are lucky to have so many fall attractions, events, and places to take kids in Pittsburgh where families have been making fall memories for years. From your local farm to some across a river and through a tunnel, Macaroni KID has all the details for you and your family to make the most of fall in Pittsburgh, PA.

Weekend of Family Fun & Pop's Farmyard at Triple B Farms

Triple B Farms is located just 15 miles from downtown Pittsburgh but is well worth the drive if you're looking to make fall memories! Pop's Farmyard is the perfect place for making family memories with acres of fun every weekend in the fall for only $15/person! Simmon's Farm Hayrides and Fall Activities

Begins September 17th $13/person, children under 33” are free

Simmon's Farm Market features a full-service greenhouse, fresh produce, a petting zoo, hayride to the pumpkin patch, playground area and corn kernel sensory bin. Their fall activities include hayrides, a 2 acre corn maze, tire maze, tire lift, 100 ft slide, fire truck slide, rubber duck mazes and more for only $13/person. My favorite thing about Simmon's Farm is that you can upgrade your ticket to $16.50 to include a PYO pumpkin (NO weighing needed) and ear of Indian corn from the field (while supplies last).  Read about our Fall Fun at Simmon's Farm last year HERE. Fall Festival at Trax Farms

Every Saturday & Sunday Starting September 24th - October 23rd from 10am-5pm

The Fall Festival at Trax Farm is a tradition for many families in the South Hills and greater Pittsburgh area. There’s something for everyone from grandparents to grandkids. Enjoy live music, food trucks, a hayride to the pumpkin patch to pick-your-own pumpkin or see if you can find your way through the giant, 3-acre corn maze! The event is free to attend, but the cost for Hayrides is $10/person, 2 years and under are FREE (pumpkins are not included in price). There are activities with additional costs - train ride, bungee jumper, rock wall, and axe throwing that are cash only.

Phantom Fall Fest

Kennywood Park

Phantom Fall Fest lets guests do Halloween their way: come early for family-friendly fun, including festive food and special autumn decorations. More rides and coasters will be open for this year’s fall event than ever before, along with Kiddieland, Thomas Town™ and other family favorites available during the day.

At 6 p.m. the fear kicks in gear! When the sun goes down, the Phantom takes screams to the extreme with seven haunted houses, four scare zones and hair-raising thrills throughout the park. If you’re up for full-on frights, then Kennywood after dark is your scream come true. Phantom Fall Fest tickets are $39.99. The park will be open from 6 – 11 p.m. on Fridays, 12 – 11 p.m. on Saturdays, 12 – 10 p.m. on Sundays, and 6 – 10 p.m. on 2 bonus Thursdays.

Fall Concert Series by Allegheny County

Allegheny County Parks

Music brings people together in a way that nothing else does. These Fall Concerts in our parks are a great way to enjoy music and to connect with other music fans.

The Fall Concert Series will be held on Saturdays beginning on Saturday, September 10 and ending on Saturday, October 8. All concerts start at 2 PM and will be using the county’s showmobile stage. Vendors will also offer food and drink for purchase at each concert. Find more info HERE.

Campfire Ghost Stories by Allegheny County

Listen to spooky stories and songs by the glow of a roaring campfire! Wear a Halloween costume for a chance to win prizes! Physical distancing will be observed, and masks are required!

Enjoy a free hayride to theHozak Farms Pumpkin Patch any weekday in October; but head out on a Saturday or Sunday for their Fall Festival. At the Fall Festival at Hozak Farms, you will find pumpkin picking, pumpkin painting ($1.50 plus price of pumpkin), hayrides to the pumpkin patch, scenic (slightly haunted hayrides through the woods, refreshments, fall decorations. Small pumpkins are $3.00 each, large pumpkins are 45 cents a pound.

Pumpkinland Weekends at Janoski's

Bring the whole family and celebrate fall with Pumpkinland located behind Janoski's Farm Market. Take a walk to the pumpkin patch (pumpkins are sold separately for $.50/lb), enjoy the scenic hayride (optional), corn maze, haunted barn, pony rides (children only), petting zoo, pedal bikes & more. Feel free to pack a lunch for your very own farm picnic or visit a food vendor on site. Pumpkinland is a separate area located to the left and rear of the farm market. Please drive back between the Market and Greenhouse to park in the designated area.

Pittsburgh Zombie Assault at Urban Assault Paintball

Friday & Saturday nights in October. 

Zombies are once again attacking Urban Assault near Pittsburgh, and your help is needed in stopping this outbreak! Navigate your way through the woods on the haunted trail as you fend off attacks from the vile creatures before you meet up with the rest of the zombie response team. Once you reach the team, you will be taken on an interactive shoot where you’ll be tasked with clearing out all the remaining zombies with the specially equipped markers. In addition to the zombie assault, there will be bonfires, food vendors, escape rooms and axe throwing. $25/person

Asian Lantern Festival at Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium

They’re back and bigger than ever! The Asian Lantern Festival returns this fall with an all-new display, featuring guest favorites from days past: dinosaurs! If you were one of the thousands of guests who marveled at the show last year, 2022 will feature a completely new, not-to-be-missed display of lanterns. Zoo Boo at Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium

Trick-or-treat through the zoo at this annual kid-friendly Halloween event on October 22, 23, 29, & 30 from 10am-3pm. Enter not-so-scary haunt spots and create creepy crafts.  Be wowed with magic and meet your favorite characters. Show off your spooktacular costumes in the Halloween parade, dance, and costume contest. Be sure to check out the animals enjoying Halloween treats throughout the park. ZooBoo activities and candy are included with general daytime admission. Specific activities subject to change.

Fall Flower Show: Blooms Under the Big Top at Phipps Conservatory

From October 8th through Oct. 30, Phipps’ Fall Flower Show: Blooms Under the Big Top will take you on a whirlwind tour of stunning circus- and carnival-inspired botanical displays. Explore the festivities as you wander through room after room of hundreds of vibrant blooms in dramatic cascades, giant disbuds and other exciting forms. From the show’s classic hand-carved wooden carousel to whimsical animal topiaries, Blooms Under the Big Top will capture the imaginations of visitors of all ages. Phipps’ new show lasts for just three weeks — don’t miss this grand celebration of the season! Hours are 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. daily and until 10 p.m. on Fridays. Child admission is $11.95 and adults are $19.95.

Freedom Farms Fall Festival

Freedom Farms Fall Festival is every weekend in October from 11am-5pm featuring hay rides, petting zoo, pumpkin patch, alcohol vendors, farm fresh food, face painting, corn pit, hay mountain, pick your own sunflowers, corn maze, and more. Admission is $10/person. Children 3 and under are free.

Yeck's Pumpkins and Hayrides

Yeck's Pumpkins and Hayrides is a family fun place for Fall activities! Starting September 18th, bring out the whole family and take a hayride, walk through a corn maze, and much more! Follow Yeck's Pumpkins and Hayrides Facebook page for updates. 

Cheeseman Farm Pumpkin Festival

147 Kennedy Rd, Portersville, PA 16051

Cheeseman Farm is a family owned and operated attraction offering a variety of activities and amenities. The Pumpkin Festival is a great way to spend a day with the family and enjoy the fall weather.  Start a new family tradition by taking a hay ride to our pumpkin patch, spend some time enjoying the petting zoo and browsing seasonal items and gifts. The cost of the hayride is $5.00 per person.  Children 2 years and under are free when accompanied by an adult.  Prices do not include the cost of the pumpkin — all pumpkins picked in the patch will be brought back to the barn and weighed to determine the price. Trick or Treat Mini Golf at Fun Fore All

Bring your friends and family out for some great fun and play Halloween themed Miniature Golf! This is a family friendly event held daily from noon to 9, weather permitting. Glow Golf starts at dusk. Each participant receives at Trick or Treat bag filled with candy and goodies. $12/adult and $10/children (12 and younger) September 30th - October 31st 2022.

Pumpkin Fest at Renshaw Farms

Starting September 24 and 25 and every Friday, Saturday & Sunday in October from 11am-6pm, Renshaw Farms is hosting Pumkin Fest. Your entrance fee of $7 includes a tractor-drawn hayride, corn maze, animal park, Bounce Pillow, Zip-Lines, Giant Rope Spider Web, Giant Pipe Rolls, Kids Bouncy Balls, Hay Bale Mountain, Hay Bale Slides, 9 Hole Mini Golf, Tunnel Crawl, Tractor Tire Mountain, Cow Roping and Lassoing, Fall Photo Booth and Face Cutouts, Yard Games, and  Giant Picture Frame for a family photo. $7/person (3 and under are free) Cash only.

Howling Hills Cornmaze Adventures

Howling Hills Corn Maze Adventure is an 8 acre, family owned corn maze that has been suggested by MacKID readers as a perfect match for an awesome activity to do with kids. Located just an hour south of Pittsburgh, Howling Hills is open Saturdays and Sundays from noon to dusk from September 17th to October 30th. General admission is $12, kids 5 and under are free. Flashlight Maze every weekend in October from 7:30pm-10pm for $15 (weather permitting). Stop by any weekday for cornstalks and pumpkins.

Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival

As you wander down the village streets and pathways of the Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival, experience a 16th Century Medieval Amusement Park! Fair Haven Farms provides plenty of open space for social distancing while enjoying your fall family activities. Fun Center, food shack, explanded hayride trail, pumpkin patch, corn maze, and petting zoo. For the pre-teen and over crowd, try out the giant bouncy balls! Fall Festival is open to the public Friday, September 16th through October 30th. Fridays 10-6, Saturday 11-6, Sundays 12-6. Spookley the Square Pumpkin 🎃 Digital Toolkit


Spookley the Square Pumpkin, the “Official Spokes-Pumpkin” for National Bullying Prevention Month, is a square pumpkin who lives in a round pumpkin patch world. Spookley helps early learners discover that the things that make us different are the things that make us special!

This Spookley the Square Pumpkin Digital Toolkit provides educators and caregivers with resources to help promote kindness, acceptance, and inclusion in their classrooms, homes, and communities. It includes video readings of the books The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin and Spookley the Square Pumpkin, A Family to be Thankful For, along with the downloadable discussion and activity guides. Physical copies of the books are available for purchase online  but not required for the toolkit. In addition to the video readings available at no cost with the toolkit, the Spookley the Square Pumpkin movie can be seen on Disney Junior and Netflix and is available for rental or purchase via all of the major digital platforms (e.g., Amazon, Apple, Google, YouTube).
