We are lucky to have so many fall attractions, events, and places to take kids in Pittsburgh where families have been making fall memories for years. From your local farm to some across a river and through a tunnel, Macaroni KID has all the details for you and your family to make the most of fall in Pittsburgh, PA.

Simmon's Farm Hayrides and Fall Activities

Simmon's Farm Market features a full-service greenhouse, fresh produce, a petting zoo, hayride to the pumpkin patch, playground area and corn kernel sensory bin. Their fall activities include hayrides, a 2 acre corn maze, tire maze, tire lift, 100 ft slide, fire truck slide, rubber duck mazes and more for only $13/person. My favorite thing about Simmon's Farm is that you can upgrade your ticket to $16.50 to include a PYO pumpkin (NO weighing needed) and ear of Indian corn from the field (while supplies last).  Read about our Fall Fun at Simmon's Farm HERE! Fall Festival at Trax Farms

Every Saturday & Sunday Starting September 23rd - October 22nd from 10am-5pm

The Fall Festival at Trax Farm is a tradition for many families in the South Hills and greater Pittsburgh area. There’s something for everyone from grandparents to grandkids. Enjoy live music, food trucks, a hayride to the pumpkin patch to pick-your-own pumpkin or see if you can find your way through the giant, 3-acre corn maze! The event is free to attend, but the cost for Hayrides to access the corn maze and pumpkin patch is $12/person online ($14/person at Trax), 2 years and under are FREE (pumpkins are not included in price). Advance tickets are strongly advised as they will get priority boarding and there will be a limited amount of in-person tickets available. There are activities with additional costs - train ride, bungee jumper, rock wall, and axe throwing that are cash only.

Great Pumpkin Festival at the Spring House

The Great Pumpkin Festival at the Spring House offers pumpkin patch hay rides, giant bale climb, giant pipe slides, corn maze, kiddie corn maze, corn box, horse lasso, human billiards, giant spider web, tic tac toe, corn toss, bigfoot race and more! Made-from-scratch eats are available both days with a variety of goodies being served.

Phantom Fall Fest

Kennywood Park

Phantom Fall Fest lets guests do Halloween their way: come early for family-friendly fun, including festive food and special autumn decorations. More rides and coasters will be open for this year’s fall event than ever before, along with Kiddieland, Thomas Town™ and other family favorites available during the day. During the day, the Phantom and his fearsome friends will stay away. Kiddieland and Thomas Town™ will be open for the smallest ghouls, along with other signature family rides for pint-sized thrill seekers. New this year, kids ages 10 & under can participate in Kenny's Trick-or-Treat Scavenger Hunt from 12 - 5 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday, September 30 - October 29. 

At 6 p.m. the fear kicks in gear! When the sun goes down, the Phantom takes screams to the extreme with seven haunted houses, four scare zones and hair-raising thrills throughout the park. If you’re up for full-on frights, then Kennywood after dark is your scream come true. Phantom Fall Fest tickets start at $37.50 when purchased online or SAVE on Phantom Fall Fest tickets with CertifiKID and get single tickets for $34.94 after taxes and fees!!. The park will be open every Friday, Saturday, & Sunday September 22nd-October 29th.

Enjoy a free hayride to theHozak Farms Pumpkin Patch any weekday in October; but head out on a Saturday or Sunday for their Fall Festival. At the Fall Festival at Hozak Farms, you will find pumpkin picking, pumpkin painting ($1.50 plus price of pumpkin), hayrides to the pumpkin patch, scenic (slightly haunted hayrides through the woods, refreshments, fall decorations. Small pumpkins are $3.00 each, large pumpkins are 45 cents a pound.

Pumpkinland Weekends at Janoski's

Bring the whole family and celebrate fall with Pumpkinland located behind Janoski's Farm Market. Take a walk to the pumpkin patch (pumpkins are sold separately for $.50/lb), enjoy the scenic hayride (optional), corn maze, haunted barn, pony rides (children only), petting zoo, pedal bikes & more. Feel free to pack a lunch for your very own farm picnic or visit a food vendor on site. Pumpkinland is a separate area located to the left and rear of the farm market. Please drive back between the Market and Greenhouse to park in the designated area.

Pittsburgh Zombie Assault at Urban Assault Paintball

Friday & Saturday nights in October 7pm - 1am

Zombies are once again attacking Urban Assault near Pittsburgh, and your help is needed in stopping this outbreak! Navigate your way through the woods on the haunted trail as you fend off attacks from the vile creatures before you meet up with the rest of the zombie response team. Once you reach the team, you will be taken on an interactive shoot where you’ll be tasked with clearing out all the remaining zombies with the specially equipped markers. In addition to the zombie assault, there will be bonfires, food vendors, escape rooms and axe throwing. Entry pass is $25/person and includes haunted trail, firing range, outdoor movie & bonfire.

Asian Lantern Festival at Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium

Fall Flower Show: Hometown Harvest at Phipps Conservatory

Starting Sat., Oct. 7, Phipps’ Fall Flower Show: Hometown Harvest pays tribute to the bounty of the harvest season and the plants and animals that make it possible through fun and festive displays surrounded by marvelous chrysanthemums in an exciting variety of sizes, shapes and colors. Explore fall moments like visiting the pumpkin patch, harvesting grapes, seeing bees making honey, taking a peaceful walk along a pond and so much more. Fall Flower Show will captivate visitors of all ages, allowing you to reminisce about your favorite fall memories while creating new ones here at Phipps. The fall show lasts for just three weeks — don’t miss this wonderful celebration of the season! Hours are 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. daily and until 10 p.m. on Fridays. Freedom Farms Fall Festival

Freedom Farms Fall Festival is every weekend in October from 11am-5pm featuring hay rides, petting zoo, pumpkin patch, alcohol vendors, farm fresh food, face painting, corn pit, hay mountain, pick your own sunflowers, corn maze, and more. Admission is $10/person. Children 3 and under are free.

Yeck's Pumpkins and Hayrides

Yeck's Pumpkins and Hayrides is a family fun place for Fall activities! Starting September 18th, bring out the whole family and take a hayride, walk through a corn maze, and much more! Follow Yeck's Pumpkins and Hayrides Facebook page for updates. 

Pumpkin Festival at Cheeseman Farm

Cheeseman Farm is a family owned and operated attraction offering a variety of activities and amenities. The Pumpkin Festival is a great way to spend a day with the family and enjoy the fall weather.  Start a new family tradition by taking a hay ride to our pumpkin patch, spend some time enjoying the petting zoo and browsing seasonal items and gifts. The cost of the hayride is $5.00 per person.  Children 2 years and under are free when accompanied by an adult.  Prices do not include the cost of the pumpkin — all pumpkins picked in the patch will be brought back to the barn and weighed to determine the price. Trick or Treat Trail Mini Golf at Fun Fore All

Bring your friends and family out for some great fun and play Halloween themed Miniature Golf! This is a family friendly event held daily from noon to 9, weather permitting. Glow Golf starts at dusk. Each participant receives at Trick or Treat bag filled with candy and goodies. $12/adult and $10/children (12 and younger) September 30th - October 31st 2023.

Pumpkin Fest at Renshaw Farms

Starting Septmber 23rd, 24th, 29th, & 30th & Every Friday, Saturday & Sunday in October from 11am-6pm, Renshaw Farms is hosting Pumkin Fest. Your entrance fee of $8 includes a tractor-drawn hayride, corn maze, animal park, Bounce Pillow, Zip-Lines, Giant Rope Spider Web, Giant Pipe Rolls, Kids Bouncy Balls, Hay Bale Mountain, Hay Bale Slides, 9 Hole Mini Golf, Tunnel Crawl, Tractor Tire Mountain, Cow Roping and Lassoing, Fall Photo Booth and Face Cutouts, Yard Games, and Giant Picture Frame for a family photo.

Weekend of Family Fun & Pop's Farmyard at Triple B Farms

Triple B Farms is located just 15 miles from downtown Pittsburgh but is well worth the drive if you're looking to make fall memories! Pop's Farmyard is the perfect place for making family memories with acres of fun every weekend in the fall for only $15/person! Fall Concert Series by Allegheny County

Allegheny County Parks

Music brings people together in a way that nothing else does. These Fall Concerts in our parks are a great way to enjoy music and to connect with other music fans. The Fall Concert Series will be held on Saturdays beginning on Saturday, September 16th and ending on Saturday, October 7th. All concerts start at 2 PM and will be using the county’s showmobile stage at a different county park each week. Vendors will also offer food and drink for purchase at each concert. Howling Hills Cornmaze Adventures

Howling Hills Corn Maze Adventure is an 8 acre, family owned corn maze that has been suggested by MacKID readers as a perfect match for an awesome activity to do with kids. Located just an hour south of Pittsburgh, Howling Hills is open Saturdays and Sundays from noon to dusk from September 30th to October 29th. General admission is $15, kids 5 and under are free. Flashlight Maze every Saturday in October from 7:00pm-10pm for $15 (weather permitting). Stop by any weekday for cornstalks and pumpkins.

Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival

As you wander down the village streets and pathways of the Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival, experience a 16th Century Medieval Amusement Park! Autumn Fest Seven Springs

Pumpkin Patch Trolley

As summer winds down and fall approaches, it means one thing: fall fun at Museum! We will host our annual Pumpkin Patch Trolley. Visitors are invited to experience the fall season with rides on trolleys that are outfitted with autumn decorations. Visitors can ride to the Trolley Display building where they can tour the large collection of trolleys.  Children can select a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch and then take it to the events room where they will be able to decorate it. Each purchase of a child’s ticket includes a pumpkin; those who would like to purchase an additional pumpkin may do so for an additional cost. There will be children’s games and complimentary fall themed refreshments. Add to the fall fun by dressing up in your favorite costume. The last trolley of the day will leave for the pumpkin patch at 3:30PM. Admission includes tours of the museum and unlimited rides on the trolleys. This is a rain or shine event. Advanced tickets are encouraged. Visitors are encouraged to arrive 10-15 minutes before their ticket time. October 20th-22nd

Trick or Trolley

Visitors are invited to experience the fall season with rides on trolleys that are outfitted with autumn decorations. Visitors can ride to the Trolley Display building where they can tour the large collection of trolleys. Corn Maze Fall Fun at Irons Mill Farmstead

Spend the day exploring the many fun stops all over the farm! Climb up spider webs, zip down the Bat Glide, bury yourself in corn at Corn Cob Beach, cheer on your favorite pig, play a round of pumpkin bowling, catch candy raining from the sky and so much more. Soak in the fresh air and beautiful surroundings while watching your loved ones smile from ear to ear. Sunday's 10am-7pm, Friday & Saturday 10am-9pm. $24.95/person

Fair Haven Farms Fall Festival

206 Lee Road, Grove City, PA 16127

Fair Haven Farms provides plenty of open space for social distancing while enjoying your fall family activities. Fun Center, food shack, explanded hayride trail, pumpkin patch, corn maze, and petting zoo. For the pre-teen and over crowd, try out the giant bouncy balls! Fall Festival is open to the public every weekend from Friday, September 15 through Sunday, October 29, 2023. Fridays 11-6, Saturday 11-6, Sundays 12-6. $ Fun Center Entry is $15/person and includes the hayride. Ages 2 and under are free.

Bedford Fall Foliage Festival 

Bedford, PA

Bedford's Fall Foliage has continually brought people together over crafts, art, music, and fellowship. Centered in the historical downtown, Fall Foliage Festival is bringing the best of local arts, crafts, and culture together in the crisp mountains of central Pennsylvania. October 7-8, 14-15, 2023


Confluence, PA

PumpkinFest is held beginning the first Friday in October in the village of Confluence, Pennsylvania. Confluence is located in the southwestern corner of Somerset County, along routes 281 and 523. It is situated along the banks of the Youghiogheny and Casselman Rivers and Laurel Hill Creek. This festival gives arts & crafts and food vendors the opportunity to show and sell their goods in the town park. It also features many interesting and exciting events. Among those are the Pumpkinfest Queen Pageant, a 5K run/walk, an antique and classic auto show, a parade and a largest pumpkin contest. Other events include a garden tractor pull, photo contest, tough man fire truck pull, tractor square dancing exhibition, live music and more. October 6, 7, & 8th, 2023

Delmont Apple 'N Arts Festival

Shields Farm, Delmont, PA

The Delmont Apple ‘n Arts Festival is an annual fall event in Delmont, Pennsylvania. With over 100 craft/art and food vendors, you can find handmade items from local crafters, delicious food, antique farm equipment, and fresh-pressed apple cider that you can see pressed right before your eyes by a 1907 antique apple press! Thousands attend this family event every year in Westmoreland County. October 7th & 8th, 2023

Fort Ligonier Days

Ligonier, PA

Commemorating a key battle of the French & Indian War, which occurred on October 12, 1758, Fort Ligonier Days draws tens of thousands of visitors each year to the quaint, picturesque town of Ligonier in the beautiful Laurel Highlands. The three-day event features historic battle reenactments, top-rated juried crafts, delicious foods, local spirits, popular musical entertainment, a grand parade, and a 5K walk/run. With the backdrop of spectacular fall foliage as its setting, a variety of activities are found on the beautiful Ligonier Diamond, throughout the historic town, and at the authentically reconstructed Fort Ligonier and its world-class, recently-renovated, museum. Spookley the Square Pumpkin 🎃 Digital Toolkit


Spookley the Square Pumpkin, the “Official Spokes-Pumpkin” for National Bullying Prevention Month, is a square pumpkin who lives in a round pumpkin patch world. Spookley helps early learners discover that the things that make us different are the things that make us special!

This Spookley the Square Pumpkin Digital Toolkit provides educators and caregivers with resources to help promote kindness, acceptance, and inclusion in their classrooms, homes, and communities. It includes video readings of the books The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin and Spookley the Square Pumpkin, A Family to be Thankful For, along with the downloadable discussion and activity guides. Physical copies of the books are available for purchase online  but not required for the toolkit. In addition to the video readings available at no cost with the toolkit, the Spookley the Square Pumpkin movie can be seen on Disney Junior and Netflix and is available for rental or purchase via all of the major digital platforms (e.g., Amazon, Apple, Google, YouTube).
