8 Places to Go for Self-Care in the South Hills

By Emily Papa, Macaroni KID Publisher January 25, 2022

Girl! Have you been taking care of yourself? Trust and believe that we all know how real the struggle is when it comes to slowing down and making time for the number one, you. Mama you've got to make some time! Trust me!

We all have our favorites when it comes to self-care, and we asked some of our readers on social media to share with us some of their go-to places in the South Hills to practice self-care. Would you believe me if I told you that out of the responses I got, three of those places were already on my list?! Either great minds think alike or they are just THAT good. We'll share some deets with you, and you can decide for yourself when you book your next self-care day (which should be soon. Like today). Want to check out ways we practiced self-care last year mid-pandemic? You can find them here

1. Permanent Makeup by Maggie

400 Washington Road, McMurray

412.616.2573

Hands down one of the best things I did for myself in 2021 was booking an appointment with Maggie Leydig, a certified permanent makeup artist that works at TaTa-Toos in McMurray. Maggie is a fellow South Hills mama and Air Force veteran with a story of strength and smiles for days. When I met her, I knew I wanted to do SOMETHING with my gawd-awful eyebrows, but I wasn't sure what. Maggie walked me through how to search photos for my perfect brow, then spent a few hours making those brows become a reality for me. Maggie gave me an ombre powder brow with a few microblading strokes at the front to give them some dimension. I kid you not, having good brows has been such a confidence booster for me and I get compliments on them all the time. I love that I feel "ready" just by simply having eyebrow! If your 90s plucked eyebrows have you wanting more, give Maggie a call, and she will NOT disappoint you. Here's a glimpse of my before and after for you.      tata-toos.com

2. Frenchies South Hills

1720 Washington Road, Upper St. Clair

412.308.6849

Are you looking for a revolution in nail care? Look no further. Frenchies South Hill is located in Norman Shopping Centre across from South Hills Village Mall. Clear your schedule and prepare yourself for an afternoon of pampering in this modern South Hills salon. Frenchies is super-clean and get this, doesn't even smell like a nail salon. That's right. They don't use acrylics, so there's no choking on fumes while you're sitting back for your pedicure enjoying a warm neck wrap while sipping on your glass of wine, or in my case, hot chocolate.

Check out their Instagram to find inspiration for your next mani and book your appointment today. Oh yeah, don't forget to ask them about their DD Cream. It will change your moisturizing game forever! Book online at frenchiesnails.com/location/pa-south-hills or call 412.308.6849.

3. Salt of the Earth

The salt cave, made from 16 tons of pure Himalayan salt, is a self-care destination for many in the South Hills because of its benefits in helping to relieve health issues like insomnia, breathing issues, headaches, skin conditions and so much more! When you visit, you also are invited to take a crystal into the cave to sit with for an enhanced peaceful experience.
