Carnegie Museum of Art announces Inside Out, a new outdoor summer event series celebrating and supporting Pittsburgh’s rich cultural landscape, which will be free and open to audiences of all ages. Beginning on June 5 and running through September 4, 2021, Inside Out will transform the museum’s outdoor Sculpture Courtyard into the season’s go-to destination with a robust schedule of pop-up performances, DJs, arts activities, local food trucks and beverages, kid friendly treats, and more. Hosted in partnership with local artists, arts organizations, and regional food and drink vendors, Inside Out programming will take place every Thursday from 4-8 pm and Saturday from 10-5 pm. “We are thrilled to announce Carnegie Museum of Art’s new outdoor summer event series, Inside Out, which connects artists and audiences from across the region,” says Dana Bishop-Root, Carnegie Museum of Art Director of Education and Public Programs. “In the wake of the pandemic, with its impact on small arts organizations, performance venues, and artists, Carnegie Museum of Art is able to develop and share our outdoor courtyard as a performance and gathering space, while supporting Pittsburgh’s incredible arts ecosystem. Over the past year, our visitors have shared that safely reconnecting with loved ones is a top priority; with Inside Out, we’re delighted to offer an opportunity for visitors to gather with friends, family, and neighbors in a physically distanced environment while extending the museum experience outdoors. Inside Out is an impactful, joyful, and generous celebration of our regional communities.”
During Inside Out, visitors will be able to explore their artistic sides with creative workshops, preview never-before-seen site-specific commissions by regional performing arts groups, and jam out to sets by local DJs. Each event will feature a local food truck and a bar created by the museum’s Café Carnegie featuring custom snacks, delicious wines, and local beers.
The museum will continue to monitor state and CDC guidelines and update its health and safety policies to ensure the safety of all visitors and staff. Inside Out events have limited capacity and will be available on a first come first serve basis. The full line-up of events and programs is available on cmoa.org/inside-out and is listed below.
