Looking for things to do with kids in the South Hills of Pittsburgh this February? Not only do we have a jam-packed event calendar filled with activities, but we’ve also made it easy by rounding up the best 10 things to do in February in Pittsburgh!
1) The Rink at PPG Place
Just because the holiday season is over doesn’t mean that winter festivities are! Head to The Rink at PPG Place for some ice skating before it closes for the season on February 28.
2) Hearts in the Park, Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh: Feb. 13
Take the family out to celebrate Valentine’s Day with the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh and get ready for some socially distanced, outdoors fun! Join them for a free, Valentine’s celebration outside the Children's Museum and in Buhl Community Park from 4 to 8PM. Expect kid-friendly activities and exhibits that spread joy, creativity and kindness. Hearts in the park is free, with no registration required, and is a walk up or drive through event that will require social distancing and masks.
3) Pittsburgh Zoo Animal Cams
Even though the zoo is still closed, the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium has two animal cams to enjoy from home! One is for the penguin exhibit and another is for the cheetahs. For anyone feeling nostalgic about summer trips to the zoo, these cams are a great window into the animal exhibits that Pittsburgh natives have come to love! If your child can’t get enough of zoo animals, join the Bethel Park Public Library every Thursday to guess a new zoo animal each week, including reading about it, playing games, and doing a craft.
4) Drive-In Movie Theater in Moon Township
It’s been over a year now since most of us have been in a movie theater, and understandably so. If you and your kids are itching for a movie, head to Moon Township to the “Dependable Drive-In” movie theater. They have nightly showings, ranging from “Wonder Woman 1984” to Pixar’s newest flick, “Soul”.
5) Ski, Snowboard, or Sled!
Last year at this time, Governor Tom Wolf declared January Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month. Even though January has passed, if you want to get out of the house and teach your kids something new, consider signing them up for a lesson to learn how to shred the snow down the side of a mountain. 6) Andy Warhol Museum Virtual Workshop: Feb. 13
Warhol shook up the art world with the release of his Campbell’s Soup prints. This year, you and your kids can create a fun and unique flavor for your valentine with Love Potion Soup, a virtual workshop for early learners. You will be able to experience a mix of storytelling, hands-on synchronous art making, movement and independent exploration!
7) Pittsburgh National Aviary: After School
Even with the Pittsburgh National Aviary closed, your kids can still learn about the wonderful world of birds while making supervised personal connections with other kids online! Aviary After School includes: Hands-on STEAM activities that kids can enjoy at home User-friendly virtual learning Topics ranging from Habitats to Celebrating Birds Great add-on to your child’s school day! This takes place every Thursday from 4-5PM.
8) Little Sprouts with Phipps Conservatory
Do your kids love learning about nature? Check out Little Sprouts from Phipps Conservatory. These are unique virtual programs that touch on topics such as art, science and sustainability in fun, interactive ways. They are held every Monday from 9:30-10:30AM. The first event in February is Winter Landscape Art, where you will use natural materials to create beautiful works of art!
9) Girl Scouts: Free & Interactive Events
Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania (GSWPA) launched a new series of free, at-home events to offer all girls a fun, interactive experience and the opportunity to connect with other girls. The events are centered on an activity—building and launching a rocket, creating a flower crown, or assembling a robot—and parents and caregivers are encouraged to join in the fun with their girl.
