The Free Store
Braddock
The Free Store receives surplus and donated goods and redistributes them to neighbors in need. What began as a Braddock project grew to serve residents all over Allegheny County. The Free Store wants to change individual relationships with material goods while combating poverty through empowerment. They accept most everything that is new or gently used condition (and in season please). Baby clothing, Formula, Diapers and Household Items are always needed. Genesis of Pittsburgh, Inc. is a nonprofit social service agency dedicated to providing life-affirming programs and services for pregnant women, children and adoptive families. Genesis is non-political and non-sectarian. Programs and services include; housing, counseling, adoptions, classes, CPR, parenting, life skills and the distribution of baby supplies and equipment, diapers, formula and clothing.

When you donate your new and gently used items, local Goodwill organizations sell them in stores or on shopgoodwill.com and use the revenue generated to provide valuable employment training and job placement services for people in your community.
Julie’s House

Abstinent living for women and children, Julie’s House is a 3-6 month residential program for women in early recovery. Each woman is given her own apartment for her and child(ren), and often come in with nothing. Donations are accepted by appointment only by calling 724.228.2203.

The Pittsburgh Toy Lending Library is a 100% volunteer-run cooperative that offers an indoor play space and allows families to borrow toys for home use. Thousands of our neighbors struggle with hunger, poverty and making a better life for their families. Together with the South Hills community, SHIM can help. SHIM accepts donations of non-perishable food and gently-used, in-season, and baby clothing at the Bethel Park location on weekdays: Monday 1-4pm, Tuesday 9am-1pm, Wednesday 9am-4pm, Thursday 2-4pm (except the second and fourth Thursday of each month), Friday 9am-12pm (except the second and fourth Friday of each month.) The Washington City Mission

City Mission is grateful to accept the donation of your excess items. They accept clothing, shoes/boots, clothing accessories, decorative accessories, electronics, furniture, household goods, jewelry, small & large appliances, sports equipment, tools, toys, books, records, DVD’s, video games and board games. For a complete list of accepted items, click HERE. Your gift to City Mission provides the resources needed to restore hope to the homeless. It allows the City Mission to provide meals and shelter, training and educational opportunities, to continue recovery programs, and much more.
Donations are accepted at any of the City Mission thrift stores, vocational training center, or any area donation bins. For bulk items, including furniture and appliances, please drop off at the vocational training center Monday – Friday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1000 Sheffield St, Washington. The Washington City Mission does on occasion pick up bulk items. To schedule pick-up, please call (724) 222-8530 x 21.
