Mad Science of Pittsburgh’s mission is to spark the imagination and curiosity of children by providing fun, interactive, and educational activities that instill a clear understanding of what science is and how it affects the world around them.
Scientific literacy is a crucial component of a child’s ability to fully engage in the world. Our programs encourage children to think outside the box and ask good questions that they can then take back to their parents and teachers, extending their learning throughout the year.
Our camps will engage your child’s mind with exciting hands-on science activities, spectacular demonstrations, and inquiry-based discussions. We offer a fun-filled camp week that will take you from geology to oceanography and from physics to forensics.
This year, we have a brand new offering called Forces and Flight! From the earliest flying machines to the first rocket flights, this hands-on program will allow them to build many different flying devices, see how Newton's laws of motion help explain how things move and how rockets fly, and show them how amazing our Milky Way is.
Discover the science of circuits and how robots use sensors to explore things around them in our Red Hot Robots Camp! Learn about the uses of robots in our world and spend time experimenting with super cool red-hot robots. Use your skills to build your very own working robot to take home with you!
In our Eureka! camp, your child will overcome a series of challenges using basic materials, simple machines, tips from famous inventors, and most important of all, your mind! Create catapults and forts, build shelters and bridges, and learn about density during this super fun camp!
If you LOVE chemistry, join us for Fizz, Boom, Bang! This hands-on and interactive program of chemistry for children is packed solid with cool reactions. Students put on goggles and change liquid to solid and back again. They get to handle laboratory tools, build and break molecules, and pick up some tricks on chemical changes.
Underground Explorers invites campers to dig up the ancient past! Kids learn about archaeology and the techniques scientists use to excavate long-lost cities! They also study bone fragments, pottery shards, amber deposits, and fossils to understand what they can tell us about history—and take many of their findings home with them!
Does your child LOVE all things LEGO®? In Brixology, students will use unique Mad Science-designed LEGO® kits to build a different engineering-themed project in every class! They will use critical thinking, cooperation, and creative problem-solving to test and improve their creations!
We offer half-day and full-day camp options. Every camp includes fun and educational take-home experiments to fuel your future explorations—and a super cool Mad Science T-shirt!
