Family, friends, and hearts

Welcome back and welcome to our new subscribers!  We hope everyone had a great Mother's Day.  Even though it was a dreary day, Mandy and I had a wonderful day full of family, friends, and hearts.

Over the past few weeks my husband has been frequenting Radio Shack and he's been taking our son with him. Male bonding time.  On one of those trips, our son found something he wanted to make for me for Mother's Day ...

It's not too late for local families to “turn their clutter into cash” by selling new and gently used items their family has outgrown. Consignors prepare and price their own items using an easy, online bar code system. Then, they earn 60% of their sales or, if they volunteer at the event, 70% of their sales less a $10 consignor fee. Anyone interested in consigning can sign up for the Pittsburgh event on the jbfsale.com website (click here).

In order to provide the maximum benefit back to the local families who consign through the event, the JBF sale runs through the effort of many volunteers. Volunteers earn the privilege of shopping very first at the JBF event and have the chance to shop the widest selection and best deals first. Anyone is welcome to volunteer at the event ~ and the more you volunteer, the earlier you can shop.  You can register to volunteer for a short 4-hour shift to guarantee early admission at the pre-sale event!

Saturday, July 14 - Super Duper Mini Chefs @ South Hills Village

Join us to whip up some fun during this culinary event that combines food, family, and fun.  Mini Chefs can roll up their sleeves and explore the fun side of food with hands-on learning activities!  Craft activities include cereal necklaces, food artwork, and more!  Kids and their parents are also encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to help provide relief to families served by the Greater Pittsburgh Area Food Bank.  Plus, Simon Kidgets Club members receive their very own Kidgets character dinner plate! (while supplies last)

Saturday, July 21 - Habitat for Humanity's Kids' Triathlon Series

Athletes ages 7 to 12 are invited to run, swim and bike for a great cause in an exciting day promoting an active, healthy lifestyle for youth.  Proceeds benefit Habitat For Humanity Of Greater Pittsburgh, whose mission is the elimination of substandard housing in Allegheny County and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action.

3rd Annual South Hills Summer Basketball League

For boys grade 3 - 8

Coach Mark Walsh will run a developmental basketball league for boys entering grades 3 - 8 by Fall 2012.  This league is not about winning and losing.  Coach Walsh and his staff referee the games and stop the games to explain what the player did incorrectly (traveling, double dribbling).  They do call fouls.  They play man to man and zone defense.  The coaching staff sub every 5 minutes and everybody gets the ball.  Every child plays equal.  Even though they don't keep score, the kids play hard!
