Description

The Pittsburgh Soul Food Fest is a tribute to African American food service pioneers who started food businesses, butcheries, restaurants and taverns in the City since 1795 to present. We celebrate Benjamin "Big Daddy" Richards who started the first Black butchery on 3rd Avenue in Downtown Pittsburgh in 1790; Charles Richards who established the first African American tavern in Pittsburgh on present-day Stanwix street called "The Negro"; Rev. John C. Peck who established the first African American Oyster House and Ice-cream Parlor on 3rd Avenue by Market Square in 1830; and John Vashon property owner who started a restaurant, bathhouse and barbershop in downtown Pittsburgh on 3rd avenue in 1832.

The Soul Food Fest involves: Live Bands l Speakers l Item/Craft Vendors l l Gospel Groups l Food Vendors
