6 DIY Halloween Sensory Activities for Kids

By Kelly Caruso October 21, 2024

Halloween is right around the corner! It’s one of my favorite holidays to include fun-themed tactile sensory activities! There is nothing like getting your hands messy with pumpkins, ghouls and goblins.

If you need some Halloween sensory activity ideas to do with your children, Here are some of my favorite ideas that are easy to put together and will help create some special memories with you and your children.

Pumpkin shape sorting

What you’ll need:

  • Contact paper
  • Construction paper

This is a great activity to work on matching and shape identification. The contact paper adds a fun sensory experience!

Potion play

What you’ll need:

  • Baking soda
  • Vinegar
  • Cauldron
  • Food coloring

This activity is always a favorite in our house every holiday! The kids love mixing the baking soda and vinegar together to create a fizzy science experiment. For Halloween, I like to go to the dollar store and find mini cauldrons, eyeballs, glitter and more to make fizzy witches potions!

Ghost bin

What you’ll need:

  • Shredded white and black paper

I like to hide letters or shapes and have the kids find them within the paper. I used little resin ghosts and had my daughter match how many to number cards.

Nature Skeleton

What you’ll need:

  • Sticks from the yard
  • Skeleton handout

Have your child work on naming different parts of the body while breaking the sticks to create “bones”.

Blow Art Ghosts

  • Google eyes
  • Plastic Straw

Place a small amount of paint on the paper and then have your child use the straw to blow the paint. It creates little ghost shapes!

Pumpkin Play Doh Tray

What you’ll need:

  • Orange play doh
  • Google eyes
  • Green Pipe cleaner
  • Dried Beans

I love using a tray like this to create a little sensory station. My children both love to create with play doh and the possibilities are endless!

I hope these Halloween Sensory Activities help get your holiday off to a fun start for you and your family!
