Exciting Fall Theme, Forests, at the National Aviary

New Season Brings Fun for the Whole Family

September 11, 2023

Embrace that fall feeling during the National Aviary’s newest seasonal theme, Forests Presented by Peoples. Bring your little one on a journey throughout immersive habitats, like the toasty Tropical Rainforest, to try and spot Wookiee, the Linnaeus’ Two-toed Sloth living high up in the trees. Watch adorable ducks bathing under a 15-foot waterfall, and continue into Canary’s Call Presented by Dollar Bank to see the newest members of our flock, Crested Wood-partridge chicks, scurrying alongside their parents. While you’re there, add-on the excitement of getting closer to a colorful forest bird during the Rainbow Lorikeet Feeding

For even more interactive fun, add-on the live immersive bird show Habitat Heroes presented by AAA Travel! Experience the thrill of powerful forest birds like Bald Eagles and Eurasian Eagle-Owls flying right over your head as you learn about their incredible “superpowers” or adaptations, and how you can be a hero to birds, too.

Check out the Aviary’s interactive play spaces, where you can relax as your child dresses as a Junior Avian Scientist and practices their animal care skills. They can spend time “building” their own log cabin with realistic logs and blocks, or make their drawing come to life and and watching it appear on the screen in front of them. Young children can also feel and see the different textures and colors of forest elements like leaves and animal figurines at a Sensory Table.

While exploring forested habitats, be sure to visit Kodiak the Steller’s Sea Eagle and his potential new mate! Learn all about the pair, plus other National Aviary eagles, including Autumn the Golden Eagle, during a daily Eagles of the Forest Talk, included with admission!
