Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh and MuseumLab will have free general admission for the month of August.
The offer is supported by RAD – the Allegheny Regional Asset District – as a way to celebrate the Children’s Museum being named one of the finest children’s museums in the country according to USA TODAY 10Best Readers' Choice Awards.
The Children’s Museum was voted #2 in Best Children’s Museums by online voters, while the Andy Warhol Museum was voted #4 in Best Art Museums and the Heinz History Center was voted #2 in Best History Museums. All three museums will provide free admission in August through RAD’s ‘3 For Free’ offer. Pittsburgh was the only city in the country to see three different museums land in the top five ranking.

Free admission only applies to general admission at the Children’s Museum. There are no discounts offered on group visits, special events, parking or museum Store or Café purchases. All museum rules will be enforced.
Throughout the month of August, visitors are also encouraged to contribute to the museum’s Diaper Drive to benefit Western Pennsylvania Diaper Bank. A diaper collection bin will be located at the museum when you visit.
Visitors to the Children’s Museum can explore its latest exhibit, Wild Kratts®: Creature Power®!, an interactive exhibit based on the popular PBS Kids series, as well as the museum’s seven permanent exhibits: the Art Studio, Makeshop, Kindness Gallery, Garage, Nursery, Waterplay and Backyard.
MuseumLab, where kids 10+ can have cutting-edge experiences in art, tech and making, is next door to the Children’s Museum and included with admission. MuseumLab’s summer hours are Monday – Sunday, noon – 5:00 pm, through August 27.
Fun programs offered by the Children’s Museum in August include visits from the National Aviary and Humane Animal Rescue League; weekly outdoor concerts in the Solar Concert Series; Sensory Friendly Afternoon on August 8; and Kindergarten…Here I Come! Learn more at pittsburghkids.org/calendar.
The museum is also celebrating 40 years of sharing joy, creativity, curiosity and kindness. You can leave a special memory or birthday wishes in the SLB recording booth in the Café.
Visitors seeking free tickets during the ‘3 For Free’ month are encouraged to book online at each museum’s website – the best way to guarantee admission on what are expected to be busy days. The new offer will be in addition to the annual free-admission RAD Days, which will begin in September at more assets throughout Allegheny County.
