Happy World Tourism Day - A Note from Your Publisher

By Emily Papa, Macaroni KID South Hills Publisher September 27, 2022

Traveling to other cities and countries, learning about different cultures, experiencing others customs and life outside our small bubble in the South Hills of Pittsburgh is an experience I wish for all of you.

I was very fortunate growing up that my parents took advantage of different opportunities to travel with us and educate us on life beyond Bethel Park. Whether it was to a river, lake, ocean, Niagara Falls, New York City, the Washington monument, or somewhere outside the suburbs, we truly were blessed with those experiences.

When I was in college, I was awarded an opportunity to study abroad in Buenos Aires for a semester. While living with a host family in Prometeo, I tended to my studies at the local college while spending every moment outside that taking in as much as I could that South America had to offer like spending a day in a Guariní village, walking through the historic Recoleta cemetery, taking in the breathtaking views of Iguazu falls, hiking and riding horseback through Córdoba, watching the sunset behind the Salt Flats. That experience was SO life-changing for me, and created an even greater hunger for travel.

This past weekend I was on a hosted trip to Beaches Turks & Caicos for their annual Beaches Friends Forever "BFF" event. I can't wait to share more details with you! It was such an incredible weekend of fun in the sun, rest, relaxation, and connecting with some wonderful people from all across the world. Being in the middle of that water, looking straight down to the ocean floor while floating 12 feet on the top of the waves is just indescribable. It's a feeling I can't get anywhere else but from traveling.

I'd love to hear from you some of your favorite travel spots, both international and domestic. If you haven't done much traveling, this is your sign that it's time to book that trip you have been thinking of. I wish abundance of travel for you and your families in the future! Happy World Tourism Day!
