Picky Eaters? Make Healthy Foods Fun Through the Power of Play

A Macaroni Mama Product Review

By Emily Papa, Macaroni KID Publisher January 17, 2022

Do you have Picky Eaters at home? I do. Fortunately, we've gone through phases where there is usually something we can use to appeal to them, but I know for some parents, that's not the case. Last January we offered our readers 11 Tips and Tricks to Get Your Kids to Eat Healthy, but in the spirit of all things 2022, we'd like to introduce a pivot on those tricks and traditional silverware ;) If you haven't seen these cute little guys featured on our social media, we'd like to introduce you to Picky Eaters!

Picky Eaters is a mom-owned small business located right here in the South Hills. Picky Eaters were created by two Pittsburgh moms on a mission to help kids develop healthy eating habits while trying foods that they may normally avoid and to make mealtime a little more enjoyable. These BPA free, dishwasher-safe picks are topped with colorful characters that not only encourage your littles ones to try new things, but will also spark their imagination as they become one with their Picky character. Picky Eaters are manufactured locally in PA and lovingly packed to order by hand.

Over the holidays, Macaroni KID was sent a Picky Eaters 6-Pack to test out. I was hoping to hold out until Christmas to give them to my kiddos, but on the night my husband made turkey meatball hoagies, I instantly knew I needed to speed up the introduction. My 5-year-old son instantly claimed Dino-mite and Paw-some as his picks of choice while my 9-year-old daughter quickly adopted Sly-as-a-fox and Know-it-owl as her new babies. Before I knew it, they were both actually EXCITED to try their turkey meatballs!

Since the first introduction, our kids feel like it's a special "treat" when we pull out our Picky Eaters and actually encourage them to play with their food. When friends come over for play dates, our kids will request to eat with Picky Eaters to share their mealtime giggles. I'm a little upset I didn't know about these 8 years ago... I feel like so many table struggles could have been avoided!
