Meet the Macaroni Kid South Hills Interns

By Macaroni KID Interns July 18, 2021

We all know that it takes a village; and that's no different here at Macaroni Kid South Hills. Along with our regular and interim parent contributors, Macaroni KID South Hills has some awesome interns in our tribe. I wanted to introduce them to our readers and acknowledge them for all the hard work they do.

If you are a local parent looking to contribute content or ideas, you can always do that HERE. Local business with family friendly events can submit them to our free event calendar HERE

I was the SEO Assistant intern for Macaroni Kid South Hills during the spring of 2021! Throughout my time at Mac Kid, I worked on optimizing the site and creating compelling content so that more families could find out about all the amazing events and activities going on in the South Hills. My favorite thing I did during the internship was starting the monthly article series of “Best Things To Do in the South Hills of Pittsburgh”, in which I researched and reached out to many local businesses and organizations in order to write high-quality and high-ranking articles. The skills and experiences that I gained from this internship even enabled me to secure a job straight out of graduating from the University of Pittsburgh this May!

My name is Joe Beadles, and I am a senior at the University of Pittsburgh. I am a Social Media intern for Macaroni Kid South Hills for the spring and summer of 2021. My work involved creating social media contact for our followers to stay updated with activities going on in their communities. These activities focused on things for their kids to do, articles from our website, and putting the spotlight on local businesses. My favorite activity was working on the Summer Camp posts and making sure families had opportunities to enroll their children in a fun camp for the summer. This opportunity has provided me with an exciting experience and an understanding of how to operate a social media business account.

I’m Alexus Miller, this summer’s Macaroni Kid Publisher Assistant! I just graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a journalism and public relations degree. My goal for my time here with Macaroni Kid is to put what I learned over these four years into my work and passions. I want to use my skills to help bring light into the world through writing and creating content. Macaroni Kid helps families come together and stay connected with their town/city. They post, not only daily events and places to go, but articles about fun recipes to try, advice on raising your wild kids and heartfelt stories that make you feel at home. This internship will open so many opportunities for me in the future and has already taught me so much. I make weekly editorial content, submit events for the editorial calendar, communicate with businesses and people in the community to create the best articles and work on sponsored content. I am so excited about this journey with Macaroni Kid and what is to come.

I am Samantha Cole, and I am Macaroni Kid South Hill’s graphic design intern for the summer of 2021! I am currently a senior at California University of Pennsylvania, and I will be graduating in the Fall of 2021 with a bachelor’s in Digital Media Technology and a minor in Marketing. Throughout my time here, I will be creating graphics/images for Macaroni Kid South Hill’s website and various social media. This internship will provide so many opportunities for me and will also provide me with some valuable experience. It also allows me to practice and use everything I have learned throughout my years at CalU. I am excited about this experience with Macaroni Kid and I cannot wait to see what is to come!
