Commemorating its 20th anniversary, Venture Outdoors has announced Big Day Aht, a June
5th event boasting dozens of pop-up outdoor programs held following CDC guidelines throughout Allegheny County.
“We’ve got all kinds of experiences planned!” said Valerie Beichner, Venture Outdoors President & CEO. “What better way to celebrate the hundreds of volunteers, hundreds of thousands of participants and community members that helped shape Venture Outdoors and our local outdoor industry than to host one great day aht.”
Activities can be enjoyed by all ages and experience levels and will be held in various locations. Programs include geocaching in South Park, fishing on the North Shore, and Tyke Hikes at Frick Park, and much more! For the final event, Venture Outdoors will host the 2021 Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival World Tour at the Carrie Furnace as a drive-in movie.
This event is designed as the anti-festival festival, allowing people to celebrate the outdoors and Venture Outdoors together while maintaining all CDC, state and county guidance in the COVID-19 environment. Events in this day long celebration will be held in small groups and will allow participants to remain socially distant while outdoors. Venture Outdoors created Big Day Aht to help celebrate their 20th year of serving the community. The non profit has played a key role in shaping the outdoor industry in Pittsburgh and western Pennsylvania. Venture Outdoors was the first organization to put kayaks on the three rivers in downtown through Kayak Pittsburgh, where they serve 35,000 individuals each year.
“We’re excited about the format of Big Day Aht because it gives people the chance to try new things,” said Kie McCrae, Venture Outdoors Manager of Cool Stuff and the event’s organizer. “We’ll provide any needed equipment and instruction.
