How to Find a Dinosaur in the South Hills

find 3D dinosaurs, animals and insects with Google AR on your smart device

By Emily Papa September 23, 2020

Everyone knows that dinosaurs USED to roam the Earth. What if I told you that they were still here? That you just needed to take a closer look?
All you need is your smartphone and your imagination and you will start seeing dinosaurs everywhere (using Google AR)!

How to Spot a Dinosaur:

  1. Make sure you have the Google Browser app downloaded on your smart device (we use an iPhone).
  2. Locate and open Google browser

  3. Type in what you are looking for. In this case, we are searching for Dinosaurs. You can type in “dinosaurs” or use the list below for a specific dinosaur.
  4. Look for the large, animated image that accompanies the words “See a xxx in your space”
  5. Click on the “View in 3D” button

  6. Allow Google to access your camera
  7. Point your camera into an open space and slowly move the lens side to side. You want to make sure you are in a well lit area.
  8. Use one finger to move it around, two fingers to scale it. Physically walk around your new 3D AR pet to see all sides of it and interact with it.
  9. Voila! Meet your new family pet and introduce him to your kids!

While Google is adding new things to its list daily, Macaroni Kid has put together a list of some of our favorites to search for. Can you find these in your neighborhood? Have you found something NOT on our list? Please email us at emilyp@macaronikid.com with your finds, so we can add it to our list!
